Botany

Department of Botany is, one of the oldest and leading departments in the college, established in 1965. The Department is dedicated to teaching and equipping the students with life skills. Initially the department offered a complementary course only. In keeping pace with the advances in various aspects of Biological science, the department introduced UG programme in Plant Science in 1995. The curriculum is revised regularly in every 3-4 years to include the new trends and advanced in the field. The recent curriculum revision was in 2014. It is a language reduced programme and is different from the conventional Botany course where the curriculum includes additional subjects like General informatics, Numerical skill, Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property Rights which make the programme unique and contemporary. The programme is in credit semester system which offers flexibility in the structuring and assessment of courses. For B. Sc Plant Science, the major elective course is Biotechnology. Moreover the Department offers open course in Mushroom Cultivation. The department maintains a fully equipped tissue culture lab and a microbiology lab other than degree general lab. The Department also maintains a Botanical garden and Poly-house where medicinal herbs and other plants of interest are grown. The student intake is at the statutory level (36) since 2016.

Our vision is to inculcate eco-friendly attitude in students and train the graduates to acquire life skills and inculcate scientific temper and research aptitude in Plant Science and related areas of study.

Department’s mission is to conduct different programmes to protect and preserve plants and medicinal herbs, conduct hands on training and demonstration classes to equip graduation students with a life skill
