College at a Glance
N. S. S. College, Manjeri is a Govt. Aided Arts & Science College of Nair Service Society. The College is affiliated to University of Calicut and is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Malappuram District. The idea to start a College at Manjeri was conceived by Shri. Pulikkat Achuthan Nair. The meeting to discuss the possibility of a College under Nair Service Society was attended by Shri. Mannath Padmanabhan and a committee constituted for this. The college was inaugurated by Shri. P.M. Thirumulpad on 15th July 1965. It is situated on a hill of scenic beauty comprising vast area donated by Shri. P. M. Thirumulpad that provides an ideal atmosphere for the pursuit of higher education. The College was upgraded to first grade on 12th August 1970. The college is owned and managed by the Nair Service Society which considers education as a social service. It is sincerely engaged in providing free and fair education to all without any consideration of class, creed and community with due consideration to the economically backward sections of the society. Like the other 23 Colleges owned and nursed by Nair Service Society, this College also owes its origin to its legendary founder Padmabhushan Mannathu Padmanabhan. Shri. G. Sukumaran Nair, General Secretary, Nair Service Society is constantly looking upon the growth and development of the college. Prof. R. Prasanna Kumar, Secretary, N. S. S. College’s Central Committee is eagerly monitoring the day to day activities of the college on its path to accomplish the mission.
The college was formally inaugurated by Sri. P.M. Thirumulpad on 15th July 1965. The jubilee of the institution was celebrated with splendor in 1990 and a new two storied block was declared opened by Sri. P.K. Narayana Panicker, the then General Secretary, Nair Service Society. A new stadium was constructed with the help of UGC in the vicinity of the Institution. A Computer lab, Language lab and a fully equipped seminar hall are recent additions to the facilities available to students. The computer lab conducts a training programme with the aim of acquiring 100% computer literacy among the staff and students of the college. At present this college offers eight Under Graduate courses and three Post Graduate courses. A strong faculty comprising 44 teachers, sixty percent of whom are Research Degree holders manages the teaching and learning process.
